David leaned back in his comfortable armchair, the fire crackling merrily in the hearth. The gentle warmth spread through the room, banishing the chill of the autumn evening. He held a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid swirling gently as he savored the moment.

He'd been clearing out old boxes in the basement when he found a forgotten shoebox. Inside, was a letter he had written to his grandfather, many years before.

The letter was filled with adolescent boasts and youthful opinions. David laughed at the brashness, the naivete of his younger self. The warmth in the room expanded, a feeling of deep pleasure rising within him.
